David J. D. Sims, Q.C.
Described by a past president of PEO as the conscience of Council, David J. D. Sims, Q.C., espoused justice and fairness during his six years of service as a non-engineer appointee to PEO Council.
Through his legal training and experience, Sims brought a different perspective to Council, which benefited from his balanced observations and guidance. A strong advocate for the separation of regulatory and advocacy roles in the profession, he provided valuable insight and advice during the establishment of the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers, and PEO’s subsequent governance review.
In addition to very actively participating in Council discussions, he served as a member on several influential committees and task forces, including the Enforcement, Registration and Executive committees, and the Changes to the Act, Admissions Appeal Process and Governance task forces.
A prime example of PEO’s core values at work, Sims exhibited integrity and respect for others in all his activities on behalf of PEO, and emphasized the primacy of the public welfare in PEO’s mandate. He willingly accepted the responsibility of serving as Complaints Review Councillor, and provided insightful feedback for potential improvement as his final act.
For his extraordinary and unselfish commitment to the engineering profession, PEO is proud to invest David J. D. Sims, Q.C., as an honorary Member of the Professional Engineers Ontario Order of Honour.
