2007 Member of the Order of Honour

Malgorzata S. (Gosha) Zywno, Ph.D., P.Eng.

Since obtaining her P.Eng. licence in 1984, Gosha Zywno has worked tirelessly to bring more women and international engineering graduates into the Ontario engineering profession.

As a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Ryerson University, Gosha is an exemplary role model for young women considering a career as a professional engineer. She has been one of the key members of the Ryerson Women in Engineering Committee, involved in such activities as high school outreach, mentorship programs and the university’s award-winning Discover Engineering program, which encourages young women to consider engineering as a field of study.

Gosha is a passionate educator dedicated to improving the quality of engineering education for all students, and her work has been recognized with many teaching and achievement awards, including the Canadian Council of Professional Engineers’ Medal for Distinction in Engineering Education and the Sharon Keillor Award for Women in Engineering Education from the American Society for Engineering Education.

An active volunteer with PEO for more than 15 years, and an international graduate herself, she brought that perspective to her work on the Academic Requirements Committee, where she has served since 1993. She also served as a member of the Task Force on Admissions to the Profession, which reviewed PEO’s procedures in the early 1990s to ensure fair and equitable treatment for all licence applicants, regardless of their gender and country of origin.

On behalf of the many people who have benefited from her passion for bringing all of the best and brightest into engineering, the association is proud to invest Gosha Zywno, Ph.D., P.Eng., as a Member of the Professional Engineers Ontario Order of Honour.
