Internal Appeals of ARC and ERC Assessments

Applicant Requests for Academic Requirements Committee (ARC) Internal Reviews

Applicants may request an internal review of academic assessments made by PEO's Academic Requirements Committee (ARC) by writing to their PEO representative explaining, in detail, the reason for the request and how it satisfies one of the following scenarios:

  1. Applicant assigned a Confirmatory Examination Program and referred to PEO’s Experience Requirements Committee (ERC).

Applicant must provide new evidence that they have obtained new additional engineering degrees. Such evidence must be sent by the issuing institution directly to PEO.
  1. Applicant assigned a Confirmatory Examination Program and not referred to PEO’s Experience Requirements Committee (ERC).

Applicant must provide new evidence that they have acquired at least five years of engineering experience following graduation from a Bachelor of Engineering program. Applicant must enclose with their request a completed Work Experience Record Form.
  1. Applicant assigned a Specific Examination Program.

Applicant must provide new evidence that they have covered, at a Bachelor of Engineering level, the material of each of the assigned examination that the applicant is disputing. Such evidence must be in a form of a course description sent directly by the issuing institution to PEO and the applicant must identify in their request the title of the course(s) and when and where they took these courses.
  1. Application rejected as not meeting the minimum academic requirements to apply for a P.Eng. licence.

Applicant must provide new evidence that they have graduated from a three-year engineering technology program or a three-year university science program in a relevant engineering field. Such evidence must be sent directly to PEO by the issuing institution.

Applicant Requests for Experience Requirements Committee (ERC) Internal Reviews

Appealing an Experience Requirements Committee Interview for Technical Examination Programs

An applicant for licensure may be interviewed to determine how their engineering experience may be taken into consideration in waiving any or all of the assigned technical examinations. It is important for applicants to prepare properly for this interview as second interviews will not be offered unless the applicant can provide evidence that they have been interviewed in the wrong discipline. An applicant may then request an internal review and reassessment.

Appealing an Experience Requirements Committee Interview for Experience Assessment

An applicant may also be referred to the Experience Requirement Committee (ERC) to be interviewed to determine if the work experience requirements under the regulations have been met. Second interviews with the ERC may only be offered after the applicant has acquired and presented sufficient additional experience to demonstrate competency in the five quality-based criteria. This second interview will only assess the additional experience gained by the applicant.

An applicant may only request an internal review of the recommendation from an interview if there is evidence of discrimination or harassment on the part of the panel members. The interview sessions are recorded to ensure an accurate record and will be reviewed should there be concerns raised by an applicant.  The recording may also be introduced into evidence in a Registration Hearing if, in fact, one occurs.  Any interview appeals must be made within six months of the interview and may be directed, in writing, to the Manager, Licensure.
