For the past 15 years, Ranee Mahalingam has worked tirelessly to raise the profile of the Scarborough Chapter and establish a strong link between licence holders, PEO and her community.

An enthusiastic advocate of education outreach activities, Ranee’s passion lies with guiding our province’s future engineers. A member of the chapter executive since 2002, she recruited mentors for the FIRST robotics program, initiated bridge building competitions in Scarborough, and annually volunteers her time to judge science and other school competitions during National Engineering Month. She also led the revitalization of the local Mathletics competition in 2006 through perseverance and by securing funds from PEO. Not only are these events still being conducted in her chapter years later, but they have also generated wide media coverage to increase awareness of the profession and gained traction in many other chapters.

An authority on water and waste water regulation, Ranee served on a subcommittee of PEO’s Professional Standards Committee to prepare a guideline for Professional Engineers Writing Engineering Evaluation Reports for Drinking Water Systems. She is also an active member of the Experience Requirements Committee and the Repeal of the Industrial Exception Task Force, in addition to volunteering with the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers.

To increase diversity in the profession, Ranee mentors international engineering graduates by guiding them through the PEO licensure application process and assisting with job search techniques and resume writing. She has also been recognized for encouraging young women to enter the profession.
