Scarborough engineer recognized for his valuable leadership and exceptional commitment to the profession

PRESS RELEASE

Toronto – (May 13, 2019) – In recognition of his tireless and enthusiastic volunteer services to the profession, Narayana Pillai Asogan, P.Eng., FEC, of Scarborough, has been named a Member of the Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) Order of Honour. He was inducted into the Order at a gala on May 3 in Toronto.

Asogan began volunteering with the Scarborough Chapter in 2006 after attending a local student bridge building competition. Since then, he served many chapter roles including secretary, chair and certificate coordinator.

As chair of the chapter’s Government Liaison Program Committee, Asogan was involved in numerous government relations activities, including organizing all-candidates debates and participating in Take your MPP to Work day events to build strong relationships with government decision makers.

During a provincial by-election in 2013, Asogan organized a last-minute, all-candidate’s debate that garnered much attention from the local media. The event helped earn the chapter special recognition at that year’s PEO Queen’s Park reception.

A strong believer in student outreach, he led local school activities including mathletics and bridge building competitions as chapter chair. He also introduced a Mechatronics program to help educate students about engineering careers.

“The best volunteers are those that give without expectations, devoting time for worthy causes in the community,” he says.

The Order of Honour pays tribute to individuals who have rendered conspicuous service to the engineering profession. The rank of Member is bestowed upon those who have served the profession by contributing substantially to its operation or improvement in its status.
