COVID-19

PREVENTIVE MEASURES

PEO is actively monitoring the developing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and is taking measures to protect the health and safety of our staff, volunteers and visitors. These measures are summarized below.

Temporary Mail Service Suspension

In light of concerns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic and the need for social distancing, PEO is suspending all incoming mail deliveries effective March 27.

Applications for licences and certificates of authorization will not be accepted by mail until at least April 30, at which time the situation will be reassessed. Similarly, applications already sent to PEO will be processed no earlier than April 30. Please note that applications cannot be sent to PEO electronically.

Members and applicants are advised not to mail cheques to PEO until further notice. Payment of fees and dues, as well as payments for renewals of certificates of authorization, can be made online. All fees and dues continue to be payable.

While PEO’s office remains closed and staff have transitioned to a work from home plan, we remain available to respond by phone and email to all inquiries, including those related to the application process.
 

Office closure

To limit the spread of the COVID-19 virus, PEO has implemented a work at home plan for all its employees until at least April 8, at which time we will reassess the situation.

As we transition to this plan, we will continue to assist you as best we can while doing as much as possible to maintain our core operations.

Our response times may be slower than usual given the extreme circumstances, so we do appreciate your patience as we navigate this constantly evolving situation.

Making a complaint

Update on submitting a complaint: While PEO’s office remains closed and staff have transitioned to a work from home plan, only complaints sent via email can be processed at this time. Signed complaint forms should be emailed to complaints@peo.on.ca. If you have recently mailed a complaint to PEO and have not received acknowledgment of receipt, please resend the complaint by email to ensure that it is received.
 

Examinations cancelled

Professional Practice Exam (PPE)

The March 28 sitting of PEO’s Professional Practice Exam has been cancelled at all locations in the province due to concerns over the coronavirus outbreak.

Information on future exam sittings will be posted on our website as it becomes available at: www.peo.on.ca/licence-applications/become-professional-engineer/professional-practice-exam.

Please note that PEO will extend your time accordingly if this sitting was your final opportunity to complete the PPE.

Technical Exams

Technical exams scheduled on May 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15 have been cancelled at all locations in the province and overseas due to concerns over the COVID-19 outbreak.

Information on future exam sittings will be posted on our website as it becomes available at: www.peo.on.ca/licence-applications/become-professional-engineer/academic-requirements/technical-exam-program.

Please note that PEO will extend your time accordingly if this sitting was your final opportunity to write an exam.

Council meeting

The March 20, 2020, meeting of PEO Council was reconfigured to a virtual meeting.
 

AGM weekend 

As part of our efforts to safeguard the health and safety of our staff, volunteers and stakeholders, and to limit the spread of the COVID-19 virus, PEO will be reconfiguring its 2020 Annual General Meeting and 533rd meeting of Council into virtual ones and indefinitely postposing or cancelling the associated events scheduled to take place in Ottawa on April 24-25.

Although we were looking forward to hosting you in our nation’s capital, safeguarding the well-being of all involved is of the utmost importance to us.

The specific changes we’ve made to our AGM weekend include:

  • Reconfiguring the annual general meeting and 533rd meeting of Council on April 25 into virtual meetings on the same date or as soon thereafter as is practicable;
  • Cancelling the AGM keynote luncheon on April 25;
  • Postponing indefinitely or cancelling the Volunteer Leadership Conference on April 24; and
  • Postponing indefinitely or cancelling the Order of Honour awards gala on April 24.

Any registration fees you have paid for these events will be fully refunded shortly. Refunds will be returned to the same credit card used for payment within 7-10 business days after the reversal. All event registrations and Westin Hotel accommodation booked through the PEO system will be cancelled automatically. Travel tickets will be reimbursed upon submission of an expense claim showing that the ticket was cancelled.
