About

Our Chapter

The PEO Georgian Bay Chapter is a local branch of Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO), the regulatory body for the engineering profession in Ontario. Our chapter is committed to promoting engineering excellence and supporting the profession’s regulatory mandate in the Georgian Bay area.

As part of PEO, we encourage professional engineers, engineering interns (EITs), students, and licence applicants to actively engage with the engineering community, stay informed about regulatory updates, and participate in initiatives that benefit both the profession and the public. Our chapter serves as a hub for collaboration, networking, and professional development, providing members with numerous opportunities to connect, grow, and contribute to the advancement of engineering.

Our Core Activities

  • Governance: We foster engagement in the regulatory processes of PEO, encouraging members to participate in elections, town hall meetings, and governance discussions. Our chapter plays an integral role in shaping PEO’s activities and future.
  • Public Presence: We strive to increase public awareness of the value of engineering in the community. Through local outreach, public events, and educational initiatives, we help the public understand the role engineers play in shaping a safer, more sustainable world.
  • Grassroots Participation: Our chapter is dedicated to promoting active involvement among licence holders, inspiring participation in local PEO initiatives, and encouraging members to influence PEO governance through voting and discussion.
  • Communication: Effective communication is key to our mission. We facilitate a two-way dialogue between local engineers and PEO Council, ensuring members are informed about important decisions and updates within the organization.
  • Recognition: We celebrate the achievements of individuals and firms who support the profession. From recognizing newly licensed engineers to honoring exceptional leadership, our chapter values the dedication and contributions of those who advance the engineering community.

Our Vision

The PEO Georgian Bay Chapter is dedicated to upholding the integrity of the engineering profession while ensuring the safety and well-being of the public. We serve our local members by fostering growth, promoting STEM education, and providing networking and professional development opportunities. Together, we work to strengthen the engineering profession and make a positive impact in the Georgian Bay community and beyond.

Message from the Chapter Chair

Dear Georgian Bay PEO Chapter Members,

We hope everything is well with you.  We just wanted to take a moment and remind you the PEO chapters serve an important function in our profession.  They are to support the regulatory mandate to serve and protect the public by promoting engineering and STEM education and careers at area schools, mentoring new engineers and license applicants, and providing engineering networking and professional development opportunities.

The chapter hosted a number of events last year including some social events, technical discussions and a Mathletics competition for high school students in order to support this mandate.

The executive team has spent some time discussing what our focus area for 2025 should be.  We have decided that the focus area for the Georgian Bay Chapter in 2025 will be similar to what we have done last year and that is to increase the engagement of all members of the chapter and to build awareness with the public by offering high quality events.

We value the input of all members of the chapter and encourage you to attend the events that are planned.  We are also interested in hearing from you what types of events you would like to see the chapter offer.  ([email protected]).  We recognize the chapter covers a broad region so your input on locations and timing would be useful as well.

Thank you,

Georgian Bay PEO Chapter Executive
