Alberto De-Santis, P.Eng.

For more than 16 years, Alberto De-Santis has made significant contributions to a wide range of activities aimed at increasing the fairness, transparency and clarity of PEO processes.

As a volunteer to PEO, Alberto was a key contributor to the Admissions, Complaints, Discipline, and Enforcement study and its outcomes, and has been deeply involved in discussions on governance, strategic planning and licensure.

He has served on the Academic Requirements Committee (ARC) since 1990. The members of this committee have the arduous task of assessing the academic requirements for licensure of approximately 2000 licence applicants each year.

An international engineering graduate himself, Alberto was dedicated in his work on an ARC subcommittee dealing with the difficulties experienced by international graduates in understanding the requirements of PEO’s Professional Practice Exam. This work helped IEGs better understand Canadian ethical values and how Canadian law applies to engineering work.

He continued his advocacy on behalf of the internationally trained as a member of the Board of Skills for Change and the Maytree Foundation, in addition to involvement with other community agencies that help newcomers integrate into Canadian society and the Ontario workforce.

To meet the needs of both the profession and the public, Alberto served on PEO’s Advocacy Implementation Committee, which paved the way for creation of the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers as a separate advocacy and member services body for engineers and engineering in Ontario. He also served for five years on the Evolution of Engineering Admissions Task Force, which was an outcome of the ACDE study, and for over two years on PEO’s Governance Task Force.

It is for this continued dedication to making his profession’s regulator a model of excellence, that Alberto De-Santis, P.Eng., is invested as a Member of the Professional Engineers Ontario Order of Honour.
