Important changes coming to PEO’s Engineering Intern (EIT) program
The EIT program will no longer be offered to new applicants as of May 15, 2023. Since the required engineering work experience under the new licensing process must be acquired before applying, the EIT program—which was designed to assist applicants as they acquired work experience—is no longer sustainable in its current form.
We are pleased to continue to support current P.Eng. applicants enrolled in the EIT program. Current EITs may remain in the program as long as they continue their current licensing process.
We understand the value the EIT designation holds for prospective applicants, as well as engineering employers and local chapters. As such, PEO will consult with our stakeholders to determine other options for prospective applicants seeking to gain experience.
Please continue to monitor this webpage and the FARPACTA webpage for more information as it becomes available.
The engineering profession in Ontario is governed through self-regulation
The engineering profession in Ontario is governed through self-regulation, a privilege granted by the provincial government under the Professional Engineers Act. PEO relies on members' voluntary participation to govern and manage its affairs.
PEO’s volunteers participate on committees, task forces and PEO’s 36 chapters, which work together to support the association.
Committees are appointed by Council to address a continuing need and generally stand for several years. Task forces have a limited life-span and are appointed by Council or its Executive Committee, to study issues, develop recommendations, or oversee special initiatives.
PEO recognizes volunteers who have served on chapters, committees/ task forces, or PEO Council and celebrates achievements of milestone years of service. PEO also recognizes professional engineers and others who have rendered conspicuous service to the engineering profession, normally through association, through the Order of Honour awards program.
