Anne M. Sado
Engineer Anne Sado, P.Eng., has applied her talents for leadership, not just in her professional life, but also to enrich her young family, and enhance the lives of young people through her many volunteer commitments throughout her community. Anne has been a key player in making Junior Achievement (JA) programs available to over 200,000 students each year. JA programs, delivered through a network of “charters” made up of and funded by business volunteers develops and delivers programs that help students, from Grade 5 to OAC, understand how important business is in our daily lives. For over 10 years, Anne Sado’s efforts have helped increase the reach of JA programs. As Chair of the Peel JA Charter, she led an initiative that increased program delivery by 150 per cent over one year. After completing her term as Chair, she initiated the introduction of JA programs in Simcoe County. Anne has also been involved with Junior Achievement nationally. When Junior Achievement in Canada was restructured and revitalized six years ago, Anne co-chaired the National Fundraising Task Force. Recently, Anne represented Ontario Charters on the Board and Executive of Junior Achievement of Canada. Engineer Sado has also actively encouraged Ontario’s young people, especially women, pursue science and math studies. In September 2000, she was awarded the Arbor Award in recognition of her many years of service as a U of T alumni volunteer. She is a member of the University of Toronto’s Advisory Council for the Dean of Engineering and Applied Science and the Public Relations Leader for the Faculty’s Campaign Cabinet. For Campaign 2002, she is one of the U of T’s “Group of 175” of dedicated community leaders who aim to celebrate U of T’s 175th Anniversary by achieving the university’s largest-ever fundraising objectives. Anne was a Board member and Vice-President of the YWCA of Metropolitan Toronto for four years. She helped implement a significant turnaround at the YWCA – helping the organization move from a deficit to a surplus position over two years. Anne also helped raise thousands of dollars at the Canadian Hearing Society Foundation and championed support of a Parent Sharing Kit resource to assist parents of hearing impaired children. With the help of her family, her husband Ed and sons John-Paul and Michael, Anne shares her time and leadership skills to benefit many in the community. She is an excellent example of a professional engineer who has made a tremendous contribution to public service.
