David W. Brown, P.Eng., FEC, BDS, C.E.T., IntPE
As a passionate PEO volunteer and leader, David Brown has demonstrated his commitment to the growth and development of PEO and the profession, including service as PEO President in 2018–2019.
First elected to PEO Council in 2013 as Eastern Region Councillor, David dove into Council and committee work, serving as vice president and on the Human Resources, Executive and Central Election and Search committees. He was also involved with both PEO continuing professional development task forces leading up to the introduction of the voluntary Practice Evaluation and Knowledge (PEAK) program in 2017 (now the mandatory PEAK CPD program).
During his term as president in 2018–2019, he turned his sights to modernizing PEO and how the profession is regulated. His leadership while president saw the hiring of Harry Cayton and his subsequent external regulatory performance review of PEO and its operations. The third-party review assessed PEO’s performance as a regulator and ultimately resulted in a new, transformational vision for PEO and Council as a modern self-regulator. At the same time, David oversaw the monumental task of hiring the new Registrar and CEO, Johnny Zuccon, P.Eng., following the departure of former Registrar.
David was also appointed to serve on the Engineers Canada board (2016 to 2019), where he took on the intense work of the Accreditation Board. David also served on the Ontario Association of Certified Technicians and Technologist board from 2017 to 2019.
