Harneet S. Panesar, P. Eng., FEC, MBA

A passionate and energetic volunteer with both the Toronto Humber and East Toronto chapters since 2009, Harneet Panesar has demonstrated his commitment to the growth and development of the engineering profession.

At the Toronto Humber Chapter, Harneet began his volunteer service on the chapter’s Government Liaison Program (GLP) committee, which he ultimately chaired. He also served as chapter chair and vice chair in 2013 and 2014 respectively. He later joined the East Toronto Chapter where he again served on the GLP committee, including a year as chair, as well as service on the chapter executive and Licensure Assistance Program. Harneet also encouraged and mentored others to get involved as chapter volunteers.

Besides his chapter contributions, Harneet has made significant contributions to academia through his roles at both the University of Waterloo and Queen’s University. As a member of the Board Advisory Council of the Waterloo Institute for Sustainable Energy (WISE), Harneet has been involved in guiding research and developing innovative solutions and policies for long-term sustainability in the energy sector. At Queen’s University, he serves on the Sustainability and Research Committee of the Dean’s Advisory Board, where he focuses on advancing research endeavors and promoting sustainability practices within the Faculty of Arts and Science. Harneet’s dedication to education and research underscores his commitment to shaping the future of the engineering profession. 

Harneet is passionate about global decarbonization efforts and has played a pivotal role in leading the energy transition in Ontario, working both in Ontario’s largest Utility and Regulator, to drive innovation and enhance the province's energy systems. His efforts have been instrumental in driving sustainable energy initiatives and fostering a more resilient energy infrastructure in the region.

Beyond his engineering service record, Harneet has made significant contributions to the Sikh community and various charitable organizations including the Sikh Foundation of Canada and the Seva Food Bank. 

Harneet is also a leader in promoting diversity, equity and inclusion in the profession, demonstrating a strong commitment to ensuring equal opportunities for individuals from all backgrounds. He is a role model for others, showing that success in engineering is attainable for anyone with dedication and talent.
