Ranee Mahalingam, M.Eng., P.Eng.
Since graduating from the University of Ceylon in Sri Lanka four decades ago, Ranee Mahalingam, M.Eng., P.Eng., has devoted her life to the betterment of humanity.
Mahalingam’s ability to transform theoretical information into practical solutions has allowed her employer of the past 20 years, the Ministry of the Environment, to resolve issues concerning municipal drinking water systems, resulting in significant financial savings for many municipalities in Ontario. Her success has been recognized with many honours for client service and environmental protection.
She also works diligently on behalf of the engineering community at large.
As a volunteer for numerous local engineering initiatives, she has sparked an interest in young people to look at engineering and environmental conservation as career options. In 1999, the Deputy Minister of the Environment awarded Mahalingam a Certificate of Distinction for her work in mentoring female high school students.
She has enhanced the image of the profession in her community by mentoring new immigrants, guiding them in their applications for licensure as professional engineers in Ontario and assisting in job search techniques and resume writing.
Beyond Ontario’s borders, Mahalingam has served communities around the world affected by conflict and disaster, as the first president of the international charity Transnational Diaspora Network for Development, Canada.
