Stephen C. Armstrong, P.Eng., M.A., FCGI, C.Eng., FIMechE, CMC

Partner AMGI - Bywater

Recognized internationally as an expert in change management, Stephen Armstrong has used his engineering expertise to improve the operations of many blue chip companies around the world.

At the start of his career, Armstrong served a five-year aeronautical engineering apprenticeship with Short Brothers, Belfast, and gained his management consulting training with KPMG. In the 1990s, he worked with many high profile aerospace clients, such as de Havilland Aircraft, where he led the development of the company’s engineering and product development process. This new way of approaching aircraft design halved the time it once took to design and engineer new products. As a result, Bombardier subsequently implemented the process throughout the aerospace company worldwide and still uses it to launch and engineer new aircraft. He continued the same work at other companies in military and civilian aerospace and general manufacturing

In 1993, Armstrong founded AMGI, basing the company on a self-developed education program that focuses on strategic management of innovation, new product development and business transformation. He has since built it into a thriving boutique management consultancy, specializing in engineering, manufacturing and services, which has improved business operations of many of the world’s top organizations.

The author of several books, including Engineering and Product Development Management – The Holistic Approach, Armstrong is a Fellow of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers, U.K. and has just completed a three-year term as a trustee. He also teaches two masters courses at the University of Toronto on managing engineering innovation.
