Toronto – (May 13, 2019) – In recognition of his exemplary leadership in promoting the profession, Wayne Kershaw, P.Eng., FEC, of Beamsville, Ontario, has been named a Member of the Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) Order of Honour. He was inducted into the Order at a gala on May 3 in Toronto.
Kershaw began volunteering with the Hamilton-Burlington Chapter, serving in a variety of roles including chair, vice chair and Government Liaison Program Committee chair. He started the Western Region GLP Academy and saw it grow into a province-wide program—an accomplishment he counts as his most rewarding volunteer experience. He actively encourages volunteer participation at all levels and fosters a positive and supportive culture.
He made great efforts to encourage collaboration with neighbouring chapters including the Niagara Chapter. Kershaw later joined as an executive member and organized activities including technical tours at Niagara College, member appreciation events, AGMs and educational outreach events.
Kershaw has also provided leadership to the profession as a regional councillor on PEO Council from 2011 to 2013. He has offered his expertise to several PEO committees and task forces, including the Enforcement Committee, Legislation Committee, Council Composition Task Force, Repeal of the Industrial Exception Task Force, the Western Regional Congress Committee and more.
Kershaw encourages others to get involved with volunteering: “Do it!,” he says. “Find something that will spark your passions and run with it.”
The Order of Honour pays tribute to individuals who have rendered conspicuous service to the engineering profession. The rank of Member is bestowed upon those who have served the profession by contributing substantially to its operation or improvement in its status.
