Engineering Regulator Recognizes Chatham Engineer for Commitment to Education Outreach Initiatives

PRESS RELEASE

Toronto – (April 25, 2017) – In recognition of 13 years of tireless contributions to furthering the development of current and future Professional Engineer Ontario (PEO) licence holders, Julien Gilbert Samson, P.Eng., FEC, of Chatham, has been named a Member of PEO’s Order of Honour. He was inducted into the Order at an April 21 gala in Thunder Bay.

Since 2004, Samson has served in several executive capacities with PEO’s Chatham-Kent Chapter, and organized and volunteered at many of its events, including the annual golf and curling tournaments. He has also been instrumental in organizing many of the chapter’s education outreach efforts, including National Engineering Month activities such as Impromptu Design competitions, and science fairs for area schools. It’s this work with young people that provides him the most satisfaction: “Watching the excitement of the youth and parents while we are testing their designs during the design competitions is extremely rewarding,” he says.

It's an excitement that he hopes ultimately encourages interested students to considering engineering careers. “I would recommend a career in engineering to anyone who is interested in understanding how things work. However, the career options that are available to an engineer in the work force are so varied that you can always find something you will enjoy,” he says.

The Order of Honour pays tribute to individuals who have rendered conspicuous service to the engineering profession. The Member designation honours those who have served the engineering profession by contributing substantially to its operation or improvement in its status.
