PEO installed Gregory P. Wowchuk, BASc, Dipl El Tech, P.Eng. as its 105th president during its annual general meeting (AGM) on April 20, 2024.
President Wowchuk began his career in the Defence Systems Division of Spar Aerospace Limited, and he is currently president of Wheatfield Instrument Corporation Ltd. and a special advisor to Dynamic Solutions Institute of Applied Knowledge Inc. in Canton, MI. He was licensed by PEO in 1987; and has previously served on PEO Council as vice president (2022-2023), councillor-at-large (2018–2020) and lieutenant-governor-in-council appointed councillor (1997–2000), and as executive analyst (2012), reporting directly to the president. President Wowchuk was also a co-founder of Engineers for Engineers, Ontario Engineers for Democracy on Council and Ontario Engineers for Grassroots Democracy.
At the AGM, PEO also introduced its Council for the 2024-2025 term. The 24 individuals on the new Council govern PEO’s 91,000 licence and certificate holders, and regulate professional engineering in Ontario to serve and protect the public interest.
The new leadership group includes province-wide representation from a wide array of sectors. The composition and operation of Council is dictated by Regulation 941 under the Professional Engineers Act. Most councillors are elected by PEO's licence holders. Currently, seven councillors are appointed by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, three of whom are not professional engineers.
