Toronto – (December 2, 2013) – President Annette Bergeron, P.Eng., MBA and the council of Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) are pleased to announce the selection of Gerard McDonald, P.Eng., MBA, as the association’s new registrar. Mr. McDonald will join PEO on January 6, 2014. PEO would like to thank Deputy Registrar, Licensing and Finance Michael Price, P.Eng., MBA, FEC, who has also served as acting chief executive officer and registrar since October 2012 and will continue to do so until Mr. McDonald assumes the Registrar position.
As registrar, Mr. McDonald will be responsible for PEO’s administration of the Professional Engineers Act. Under the authority of the act, PEO licenses professional engineers, and sets standards for and regulates engineering in Ontario so that the public interest is served and protected.
Mr. McDonald has spent the greater part of his career in public service roles within the country’s transportation sector, including holding several leadership positions within Transport Canada. He is currently assistant deputy minister, safety and security. He also served as executive director of the Transportation Safety Board of Canada from 2006 to 2009.
“Gerard brings to PEO a proven record of high level regulation development and expertise and I am looking forward to welcoming him to our team,” said Ms. Bergeron.
Mr. McDonald holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Ottawa and a Bachelor of Applied Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Waterloo. He has been licensed to practise professional engineering in Ontario since 1984.
