Toronto – (April 28, 2014) – For his dedication to improving the governance of engineering in the province, Colin Moore, P.Eng., FEC, of Mississauga, has been named a Companion of the Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) Order of Honour. He was inducted into the order at an April 25 gala in Niagara Falls.
Since Moore was first inducted into the Order of Honour as a Member in 1996, he has been elected to five, consecutive, two-year terms as a PEO West Central Region Councillor, and has helped to strengthen governance of the profession as a member of several important PEO committees: his work on the Discipline Committee led to his appointment to the Experienced Practitioners Task Force whose recent recommended changes to the discipline process are being considered by PEO’s current council; his contributions on the Regional Councillors Committee led to improved practices for evaluating ch apter budgets and tracking resources used; as a member of the Professional Development Committee, he was instrumental in creating a chapter mentoring program for engineering interns; he helped to improve PEO’s financial practices while a member of the Audit Committee; and he continues to contribute to the development of practice guidelines and standards through the Professional Standards Committee, which he chaired for four years.
Moore was also a key figure in the early development of PEO’s Government Lia ison Program, which positions the association on the same side of the table with government to solve public interest issues related to professional engineering.
He continues to be an active leader within the chapter having served on its executive continuously for 30 years.
Speaking to his PEO service, Moore says: “I immigrated to Canada from a country which did not have a regulated engineering profession and recognized the value of the Professional Engineers Act in Ontario, so I determined to support and enhance the Act in any way that I could.”
The Order of Honour pays tribute to individuals who have rendered conspicuous service to the engineering profession. The Order of Honour's highest distinction, the rank of Companion recognizes contributions that exceed those of Officer. It is reserved exclusively for individuals whose distinguished service has profoundly influenced the profession.
