Mississauga engineer celebrated for volunteer efforts to champion the profession

PRESS RELEASE

Toronto – (April 26, 2018) – For his commitment to the values and vision of Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO), Galal Abdelmessih, P.Eng., FEC, PMP, of Mississauga, has been named a Member of the PEO Order of Honour. He was inducted into the Order at a gala on April 20 in Toronto.

A mechanical engineer and instructor at the University of Toronto’s School of Continuing Studies, Abdelmessih has provided leadership on various PEO committees, including 10 years on the Experience Requirements Committee—a key committee tasked with determining if an applicant’s work experience is acceptable for licensure.

As a long-time volunteer with PEO’s Mississauga Chapter, including six years as a chapter executive, Abdelmessih has served as vice chair, as well as led various executive committees, including those supporting education, licensure assistance, the Government Liaison Program and others. One of his most significant accomplishments was organizing the EIT Committee to deliver engaging events for engineering interns.

Last year, he led the chapter’s Communications Committee to improve promotion of chapter events with a new website and increased use of social media channels.

Regardless of the initiative, Abdelmessih demonstrates leadership by encouraging new volunteers to work with him in organizing events, including town hall meetings and seminars.

“My volunteer work has provided me with an opportunity to work with PEO Council and illuminated various challenges facing the engineering profession today,” he says. “It brings me closer to the action.”

The Order of Honour pays tribute to individuals who have rendered conspicuous service to the engineering profession. The rank of Member is bestowed upon those who have served the profession by contributing substantially to its operation or improvement in its status.
