Toronto – (April 23, 2018) – Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO), the licensing and regulating body for professional engineers and engineering in the province, installed David Brown, P.Eng., BDS, C.E.T., MCSCE, as its 99th president during its annual general meeting (AGM) at the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel in Toronto on April 21.
Mr. Brown has a long history of volunteer leadership within PEO and the engineering community. He has served as PEO vice president and Eastern Region councillor, and is a past member of PEO’s Human Resources, Finance and Elliot Lake Advisory committees and the Continuing Professional Development, Competency and Quality Assurance Task Force. He also represents PEO on the boards of Engineers Canada and the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists. As both a senior managing partner and practising structural engineer with Belleville, Ontario’s TaskForce Engineering Inc., Mr. Brown is passionate about building a stronger profession for Ontario’s engineers.
At its annual general meeting, PEO also introduced its Council for the 2018-2019 term. The 10 women and 16 men on the new Council will govern PEO’s 87,500 licence and certificate holders, and regulate professional engineering in Ontario to serve and protect the public interest.
The new leadership group includes province-wide representation from a wide array of sectors, including the business community, industry, academe and government. The composition and operation of Council is dictated by Regulation 941 under the Professional Engineers Act. Most councillors are elected by PEO's licence holders.
