Oakville Engineer Celebrated for Exceptional Contributions to Strengthen the Diversity of the Profession

PRESS RELEASE

Toronto – (April 25, 2017) – For his diligent and enthusiastic long-term service to the profession, Thamir (Tom) Murad, PhD, P.Eng., SM.IEEE, FEC, of Oakville, has been named a Member of the Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) Order of Honour. He was inducted into the Order at a gala on April 21 in Thunder Bay.

Since starting his volunteer career on PEO’s Experience Requirements Committee in 2003, Dr. Murad has been striving to raise the bar for engineering in Ontario by ensuring new members have adequate academic and practical experience, and that PEO’s licensing regime is accurate and efficient.

Dr. Murad has a long history of working closely with young engineers and new Canadians, strengthening their bond with the engineering profession in Canada and sharing his own experiences to assist their individual career growth and trajectory.

He says it’s the joy of meeting engineers from different backgrounds, disciplines and experiences that makes his volunteer work so enriching and worthwhile. “It provides the feeling that you are genuinely contributing to the profession,” he says.

Dr. Murad encourages all PEO members to get involved as volunteers. “We, as engineers, are only as strong as our association,” he says. “Therefore, any type of volunteer support we can provide through knowledge, experience or skills will be definitely helpful in strengthening our association to best represent engineers and regulating our practice in the optimum way.”

The Order of Honour pays tribute to individuals who have rendered conspicuous service to the engineering profession. The Member designation honours those who have served the engineering profession by contributing substantially to its operation or improvement in its status.
