Orangeville Engineer Celebrated for Conspicuous Service and Leadership to Strengthen the Profession

PRESS RELEASE

Toronto – (April 25, 2017) – For his diligent, enthusiastic and long-time service to the profession, Denis Dixon, P.Eng., FEC, of Orangeville, has been named a Companion of the Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) Order of Honour. He was inducted into the Order at a gala on April 21 in Thunder Bay.

During his tenure as PEO president over 2012-2013, Dixon focused on PEO’s core regulatory functions with an eye on maintaining positive relations with the Ontario attorney general, administrative efficiency and the best use of association resources. He also sought greater member participation in the governance and administration of the profession.

Over the years, he has served on many PEO committees and task forces, including chairing the Professional Standards Committee (PSC); and serving on the Technologist Licensure Task Group; Consulting Engineers Designation Committee; and Audit Committee, to name a few.

Following the partial roof collapse of the Algo Centre Mall in Elliot Lake, which occurred during his tenure as PEO president, Dixon led the team that represented the association in subsequent investigations and he used his extensive building experience to assist in dealings with the Elliot Lake Commission of Inquiry.

He urges everyone to volunteer, but to make sure they’re doing it for the right reasons. “It’s not all about making connections to find a great job,” he says. “We need volunteers to contribute, give back and, above all, be competent and have some expertise. You’ve got to learn as much as you can so you’re qualified, can answer questions and can pass your knowledge.”

The Order of Honour pays tribute to individuals who have rendered conspicuous service to the engineering profession. The Order of Honour's highest distinction, the rank of Companion recognizes contributions that exceed those of Officer. It is reserved exclusively for individuals whose distinguished service has profoundly influenced the profession.
