Ottawa Engineer Lauded for Efforts to Raise Profile of the Profession and Fostering Partnerships to Promote STEM Education

PRESS RELEASE

Toronto – (April 25, 2017) – An admired leader for his work promoting the engineering profession in the region, David Grant, P.Eng., FEC, of Ottawa, has been named a Member of the Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) Order of Honour. He was inducted into the Order at an April 21 gala in Thunder Bay.

A key member of PEO’s Ottawa Chapter executive, Grant has greatly contributed to its long-term success through his enthusiasm for the profession and ensuring its connection to the community.

A respected volunteer leader who has served as chapter chair, secretary, executive and Government Liaison Program subcommittee member, Grant has always been instrumental in planning and staging events to help raise the profile of engineering locally, including education outreach, work with the chapter Government Liaison Program, recognition and service awards, social and technical events, and working with engineering interns.

As the lead for the chapter’s licence certificate presentation ceremonies, Grant has a history of welcoming new colleagues in the profession in a warm and collegial environment. He has also been successful at fostering and promoting partnerships with local businesses, engineering firms, associations, museums, and the engineering departments of the University of Ottawa and Carleton University.

Grant says he has gained much through his volunteer experience. “Volunteering provides an opportunity to explore your abilities and develop ‘soft skills’ relevant in today’s business world,” he says. “Learning through experience is the take away—it’s not just unpaid work.”

The Order of Honour pays tribute to individuals who have rendered conspicuous service to the engineering profession. The Member designation honours those who have served the engineering profession by contributing substantially to its operation or improvement in its status.
