Ottawa Engineer Recognized by Professional Engineers Ontario for Significant Contributions to the Regulation of the Profession

PRESS RELEASE

Toronto – (April 27, 2015) – In recognition of his vital contributions to promoting engineering as a means to improve society, Sucha Singh Mann, P.Eng., FEC, PMP, of Ottawa, has been named a Member of the Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) Order of Honour. He was inducted into the Order at an April 24 gala in Toronto.

A member of PEO’s Ottawa Chapter executive for the past decade, chairing it in 2007, Mann is recognized for organizing a wide range of successful events. Most notably, since 2006 he has led the staging of an annual Sustainability Seminar and Panel Discussion, which brings together industry experts, academics and policy makers to discuss how engineering practices and society can be made to be safer and more sustainable.

As a member and chair of the chapter’s Education Outreach Committee, Mann has promoted the profession to students at such events as science fairs, presentations and engineering challenges. To help inspire the next generation of engineers, he initiated an engineering scholar ship program with the chapter.

With a passion to serve both the engineering profession and his community, he launched the chapter’s awards program and has chaired its selection committee since 2011. The program recognizes distinguished volunteer service to the profession and to the public by PEO members and non-members. Mann also played an integral role in establishing the chapter’s Government Liaison Program committee and building important relationships between the chapter and local elected officials.

These initiatives, he says, bring attention to important issues facing society and provide a forum to discuss how engineers are working to solve them, and how they make our lives better and safer.

The Order of Honour pays tribute to individuals who have rendered conspicuous service to the engineering profession. The rank of Member is bestowed upon those who have served the profession by contributing substantially to its operation or improvement in its status.
