Toronto – (April 26, 2018) – For his unwavering commitment to the engineering profession, Andrew Dowie, P.Eng., FEC, of Tecumseh, has been named a Member of the Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) Order of Honour. He was inducted into the Order at a gala on April 20 in Toronto.
Dowie was recognized by PEO as the first-ever recipient of the G. Gordon M. Sterling Engineering Intern Award in 2010. Since then, he has continued to make significant contributions as a volunteer.
Dowie is part of the Sterling Award subcommittee, which he describes as one of his most rewarding experiences: “Being the first recipient of the award myself, I learned just how much weight the Gordon Sterling name carries in PEO and I’ve always wanted to help make the Sterling family proud.”
After joining the Windsor-Essex Chapter as an EIT in 2006, he went on to serve as its chair in 2013 and 2014. Dowie helped the chapter reach many achievements, but some of his most notable contributions are those he made on the Government Liaison Program Committee. He represented the chapter at various events with politicians and provided a valuable link between the government and PEO. He is also known for inviting politicians to PEO events to facilitate networking and to encourage engineers to become more involved in government decision-making.
With a passion for politics, Dowie helped create PEO’s first annual Candidate College, recruiting past and present politicians to discuss the importance of having engineers run for office and how to run a successful campaign.
Dowie continues to contribute to the profession as a PEO volunteer. “I consider my experience with PEO to be one of the greatest return on investments for my time that I have personally ever had,” he says.
The Order of Honour pays tribute to individuals who have rendered conspicuous service to the engineering profession. The rank of Member is bestowed upon those who have served the profession by contributing substantially to its operation or improvement in its status.
