Toronto Engineer Honoured for Innovative Leadership and Inspirational Events for Local Engineers

PRESS RELEASE

Toronto – (April 25, 2017) – An engaging leader and organizer for engineers in his community, Stephen Favell, P.Eng., FEC, of Toronto, has been named a Member of the Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) Order of Honour. He was inducted into the Order at a gala on April 21 in Thunder Bay.

Favell first began volunteering with PEO’s Toronto Kingsway chapter 26 years ago and has spent most of that time helping to lead as a chapter executive. He is a tireless organizer of activities that engage and inspire chapter members, including presenting high-profile workshops on climate change and the role of engineers in the global warming debate, including an event based on Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth" film, as well as a "Climate Change at a Crossroads" event attended by over 200 people.

A firm believer in volunteerism, Favell helped to double the number of chapter board opportunities during his tenure as chair by engaging new volunteers to contribute in the areas of student education, professional knowledge, engineering scholarships, chapter communications, the Engineer in Residence program and the Licensure Assistance Program.

He has also been a key organizer of the chapter’s student scholarship program and is quick to recommend engineering careers to local youth. “A career in engineering can be very rewarding for those with natural curiosity and an affinity toward math, science and technology as there are unlimited opportunities for creativity and exploration,” he says. “There are many rewarding careers available and an opportunity to contribute to and advance society.”

The Order of Honour pays tribute to individuals who have rendered conspicuous service to the engineering profession. The Member designation honours those who have served the engineering profession by contributing substantially to its operation or improvement in its status.
