Willowdale Engineer Recognized for Volunteer Leadership and Impactful Service to the Profession

PRESS RELEASE

Toronto – (April 25, 2017) – An influential figure credited for providing volunteer leadership and mentoring young engineers, Mohinder Singh Grover, PhD, P.Eng., FEC, of Willowdale, has been named a Member of the Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) Order of Honour. He was inducted into the Order at an April 21 gala in Thunder Bay.

As a long-time volunteer with both PEO’s Willowdale-Thornhill Chapter and the association’s Experience Requirements Committee (ERC), Dr. Grover has demonstrated a passion for giving back to the profession and helping others in the community.

Serving on the chapter executive, Dr. Grover has helped organize seminars and recommend speakers through his extensive professional network; counselled engineering interns (EITs) through the chapter’s mentorship program; and promoted the contributions of his professional colleagues as chair of the chapter’s awards committee.

He says his volunteer efforts give him a chance to influence the direction of PEO and help the association fulfil its regulatory mandate: “First as a part of the ERC, I help ensure that applicants meet PEO requirements for licensure and will not jeopardize public safety. Secondly, being on the chapter’s executive board gives me the opportunity to pass on my experience to fellow board members. And thirdly, by mentoring EITs, I can guide them through the licensure process and provide advice on how to conduct themselves in the Canadian workplace,” he says.

The Order of Honour pays tribute to individuals who have rendered conspicuous service to the engineering profession. The Member designation honours those who have served the engineering profession by contributing substantially to its operation or improvement in its status.
