Toronto – (May 13, 2019) – For his dedication and long-term service to the engineering profession, Sardar Asif Ayyub Khan, P.Eng., MSc, MBA, FEC, PMP, of Windsor, Ontario, has been named a Member of the Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) Order of Honour. He was inducted into the Order at a gala on May 3 in Toronto.
Over the course of his 13-year PEO volunteer career, Khan has accomplished much with the Windsor-Essex Chapter, serving as chair, vice chair, secretary, GLP chair, Learn to Leverage Lean subcommittee chair and volunteer.
An expert in lean manufacturing concepts in his professional life, Khan was instrumental in initiating the chapter's successful Learn to Leverage Lean subcommittee, which provides free talks and tours to educate the public and engineering community about the benefits of lean. Based on Khan’s leadership, the chapter partnered with the University of Windsor engineering to create a graduate-level lean principles course that remains in high demand.
He says one of his most rewarding volunteer experiences was developing the chapter’s annual "Innovation Station—Engineering Your Life" event that showcases engineering to the public and students through demonstrations, bridge building competitions and school outreach by local engineers. “Through this event, I have loved being able to inspire and educate students and parents on engineering as a career,” he says.
Khan has also been active on PEO’s Chapter Leaders Conference and Planning Committee; as a mentor with the Licensure Assistance Program; and as a judge for the Windsor Regional Science, Technology and Engineering Fair.
To this day, Khan strives to live up to his favourite quote: “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in service of others.”
The Order of Honour pays tribute to individuals who have rendered conspicuous service to the engineering profession. The rank of Member is bestowed upon those who have served the profession by contributing substantially to its operation or improvement in its status.
