Important changes to PEO’s licensing processes
PEO introduced changes to our licence application process that will make applying for an engineering licence more efficient, transparent and fair for all applicants. PEO’s modernized application process will ensure new applicants receive a registration decision within six months of submitting a completed licence application.
The new application rules for obtaining a P.Eng. licence also comply with new requirements set by the provincial government under the Fair Access to Regulated Professions and Compulsory Trades Act (FARPACTA).
PEO will launch an improved online application system on July 1, 2023.
Based on the results of an applicant’s academic assessment, an applicant who is assigned a technical examination program with no basic studies exams may be referred to PEO’s Experience Assessment Department for review. The Department will assess if the applicant’s engineering experience provides sufficient basis to satisfy the knowledge requirements necessary to pass the technical examinations assigned to that applicant. The three possible outcomes of this assessment are: the technical examination program is waived, reduced, or the program stands.
Applicants who are referred to the experience assessment for PEO’s Academic Requirements for licensure are required to submit the documents noted below for all engineering experience they have accumulated from their bachelor’s degree conferral date up to the present date.
Required Documents:
- Based on the assigned technical program, please fill out the applicable experience record(s):
- A Project Form completed for at least two separate projects (one form per project)
- Disclaimer Form
Applicants who are assigned a Confirmatory Examination Program will be required to demonstrate that they have accumulated sufficient knowledge in the overall PEO exam syllabus for their discipline of assessment. Please ensure that your experience submissions cover the content of at least two examinations from Group A, one from Group B, and one from Group C from the respective syllabus for your discipline of assessment.
Applicants who are assigned a Directed Confirmatory Examination Program must provide submissions that address the assigned directed exams in addition to the content of the overall Confirmatory Examination Program.
Applicants who are assigned a Specific Examination Program will be required to demonstrate that they have accumulated sufficient knowledge in each of their assigned exams.
